From Stranded to Saved: Purplegator’s Emotional Video Raises Awareness and Donations for Wildlife-Saving Nonprofit

Client Overview
The Marine Mammal Stranding Center (MMSC) is a non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and releases marine mammals in distress. With decades of experience and a dedicated team of professionals, the center has become a beacon of hope for marine life at the Jersey shore. Despite their impactful work, MMSC needed a fresh approach to tell their story, boost awareness, connect with a broader audience, and increase donations.
Industry
The Challenge
MMSC faced the challenge of effectively communicating the depth of their mission to a wide audience. They needed a video that:
- Highlighted their work rescuing and rehabilitating marine animals.
- Showcased the passion and dedication of their mostly volunteer team.
- Served as a versatile asset for awareness campaigns, education, and fundraising efforts.

The Approach
Immersive Planning
- Purplegator collaborated with the dedicated team at the Marine Mammal Rescue Center to understand their goals and identify key moments to capture.
- The agency focused on creating an authentic narrative that emphasized both their operations and the human element behind their meaningful mission.
On-Site Filming
- Capturing the Action: Over a two day period on-site, our videography team shot behind-the-scenes footage of rescues and care, bringing viewers into the heart of MMSC operations.
- Team Stories: Purplegator conducted multiple interviews with team members in the office and on the beaches of New Jersey to highlight their passion, expertise, and commitment to rescuing and saving marine wildlife.
Creative Editing
- Purplegator delivered a long-form, five minute, video showcasing the nonprofit organization’s mission in great detail.
- We supplemented this with a 30-second, television ready, quality video to be used for targeted streaming TV campaigns.
- Then, our video team created short, impactful 6 to 15 second short form clips optimized for social media and other platforms, ensuring flexibility in content use.
The Solution
A Heartfelt Narrative
The video authentically represented MMSC\u2019s mission, balancing emotional storytelling with actionable insights. You can see first hand the passion that the team feels for their job. In fact, our team felt the same thing with one gator saying his experience with the organization was “a one of a kind experience,” while another said that those two days with the crew was “life changing.”
Versatile Content
The final deliverables included both long and short-form videos, ensuring usability across multiple platforms for education, outreach, and fundraising campaigns. The long video is now being used to help make the public and students aware of the work done by the nonprofit organization. There are plans to use streaming TV to target donors. Short form videos were used on social media.
